Birmingham & Midland Marine Services have been providing specialist occupational water safety, rescue, and commercial boat handling courses since 2013. Marine safety, rescue and access services are also available across the West Midlands for industry.

Training courses on offer at both our centres; Gailey Wharf, and the Chillington Estate, satisfy both DEFRA and the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency requirements, for personnel working on, near, above and in the water.

Water safety & rescue training aligns with both the MCA and, the DEFRA ‘Flood Rescue Concept of Operations’ documentation, (Con-Ops), November 2019 revision; including DEFRA Module 1) run to the Annex ‘H’ syllabus, for non-blue-light personnel working waterside, particularly for those staff planning entry to the water, to ‘wading depth’. (Non-Buoyant). This course has been adopted by the Environment Agency and Industry in general as the ‘go-to’ qualification for commercial operations waterside.

Higher level training within the DEFRA ‘Con Ops’ framework is also available, along with specialist and bespoke training for Power and Rescue Boat Operators, Commercial skippers of displacement vessels on category ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘Non-Linked’ bodies of water, such as lakes and reservoirs. ‘Basic’ water safety awareness and water rescue equipment training is also delivered in-house via the ‘Outreach Rescue’ Mod 1) course, the ‘MCA’ Boat Master ancillary route and the ‘RLSS’ training schemes.

Birmingham & Midland Marine Services have been a Limited company since 2020, proudly accredited and audited by Outreach Rescue, the Maritime & Coast Guard Agency, the Institute of Search and Technical Rescue (also corporate partners of InSTR), and the Royal Yachting Association.

Royal Life Saving Society water rescue training is also available by appointment as well as various other marine environment training courses, such as fire safety, first aid, rescues, and recovery from lock chambers, CAATS ‘Small & Inflatable Boat’ training for the Canal & River Trust, and finally, bespoke pre / post-course water skills 1:1 training sessions for non and poor swimmers requiring an Annex ‘H’ qualification for work and need additional coaching.

Heavy displacement workboats, Utility / Service Craft (USC), Support / Safety Craft (SSC), Rescue Boat Services (Restricted – non-tidal / coastal) (RBR), Water Rescue Teams, Aquatic PPE and Marine Plant Procurement Services are also available by arrangement.
