Birmingham & Midland Marine Services have been providing specialist occupational water safety, rescue, and commercial boat training courses since 2013. Commercial and Industrial marine support, safety, rescue and access services are also available on a national basis for inland waters operation. (Non coastal / tidal)

Training courses on offer at our centres satisfy a range of governing body requirements, such as HSE and CDM Regulations compliance, and / or DEFRA and the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency requirements, for personnel working on, near, above and in the water.

Water safety & rescue training aligns with both the MCA Boat Master Licence (BML) ancillary schemes, the DEFRA ‘Flood Rescue Concept of Operations’ documentation, (Con-Ops), December 2025 revision; including DEFRA Module 1) run to the Annex ‘G’ syllabus, ‘Water and Flood Non-Rescue Support Operations’.

This Annex ‘G’ module, sitting between Modules 1 & 2 is aimed specifically at personnel working waterside, particularly for those staff planning entry to the water, to ‘wading depth’. (Non-Buoyant).

Note: November 2019 Con-Ops version of Annex ‘H’ was superseded by Annex ‘G’ in December 2025.

The Annex ‘H’ course, now ‘G’ had been adopted by the Environment Agency and Industry in general as the ‘go-to’ qualification for commercial operations waterside. Water Rescue First Responder (DEFRA Module 2.) can be delivered in standard ‘Blue-Light’ format, or via our ‘Commercially Enhanced’ route for industry.

Organisations that do not sit under the MCA regulations, or the DEFRA ‘Con-Ops’ guidelines now have their route to HSE / CDM Regulations compliance mapped out via the new modular suit of courses promoted by British Marine and accredited by the InSTR – Institute of Search and Technical Rescue.

These HSE and CDM Regulations compliant courses include the IWSM; the Inland Water Safety Management course, or for those personnel working within the confines of tidally affected marinas, the MWSM; the Marina Water Safety Management course.

Vessels used for work, safety , or rescue require licences for the crews and these courses are delivered via the RYA Royal Yachting Association and InSTR programmes.

Procurement processes include the Government Tendering Portal YPO000999 and Achilles.

Our E-Brochures facility allows potential clients to download a brief and simple course summary, in order to be able to ascertain which courses are right for them. BMMS Ltd are always delighted to talk to potential clients and clients alike about their particular training requirements and then deliver a tailored programme to accommodate their needs.
